Today’s Scripture

“What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits toward me? I will take up the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord.”
— Psalm 116:12–13 (NKJV)

Reflection

It’s easy to spend our time asking God for what we need next. We pray for wisdom, healing, provision, strength, or direction. God welcomes those prayers because He loves us deeply. But Psalm 116 reminds us to pause and look backward before looking forward.

David asks a powerful question: “What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits toward me?” When he considers God’s goodness, he realizes there is nothing he could ever give that would equal what he has already received. God’s grace, mercy, forgiveness, protection, and salvation are gifts that cannot be repaid.

Instead of trying to earn God’s favor, David responds with worship, gratitude, and dependence. He chooses to “take up the cup of salvation” and continue calling on the Lord. Gratitude becomes his offering.

The same is true for us today. We may not be able to repay God for His goodness, but we can honor Him by living thankful lives. Every act of obedience, every word of kindness, every moment of worship, and every opportunity to love others becomes an expression of gratitude for what Christ has already done.

A grateful heart doesn’t ignore life’s challenges—it simply refuses to forget God’s faithfulness.

Application

Today, spend a few moments reflecting on how God has been faithful to you. Write down three specific blessings He has given you this year. Then ask yourself how you can express your gratitude through your actions today. Perhaps it’s serving someone, encouraging a friend, giving generously, or simply taking time to thank God in prayer.

When gratitude becomes a daily habit, joy naturally follows.

Prayer

Loving Father,

When I stop and reflect on all You have done for me, I realize there is no way I could ever repay Your goodness. Thank You for Your salvation, Your mercy, Your provision, and Your constant presence in my life. Help me express my gratitude not only with words but through a life of obedience, generosity, and love. May every day be an opportunity to honor You and celebrate the countless blessings You have poured into my life.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Challenge for today

Take five minutes today to make a gratitude list of at least ten blessings God has given you. Then thank Him for each one by name. Before the day ends, intentionally encourage someone else by sharing one way God has been faithful in your life
