As we approach Christmas, we want to intentionally slow down and reflect on the greatest gift ever given, the birth of Jesus Christ. Over the next several days, these devotionals will focus on the promises, people, and purpose surrounding His arrival. May this season draw your heart closer to Jesus and remind you of the hope, peace, and joy found in Him.
Scripture:
“Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife.”
— Matthew 1:24 (NKJV)
Reflection:
Joseph’s role in the Christmas story is often quiet, but it is deeply powerful. Faced with confusion, fear, and potential public shame, Joseph chose obedience over understanding. He trusted God’s word even when the situation did not make sense and when obedience came at a personal cost.
Joseph reminds us that faith is not always loud or celebrated. Sometimes faith looks like doing the right thing when no one else sees. God entrusted Joseph with the responsibility of protecting and raising His Son—not because Joseph had all the answers, but because he was willing to obey.
This Christmas season invites us to reflect on our own obedience. Will we trust God even when His plans disrupt our expectations?
Application:
Consider areas in your life where God may be calling you to obedience rather than comfort. Obedience often opens the door for God to work in ways we cannot yet see.
Challenge for Today:
Choose obedience in one specific area today, whether it’s forgiving someone, stepping out in faith, or trusting God with an unresolved situation.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Joseph’s example of quiet faithfulness. Help me obey You even when I don’t understand the full picture. Give me courage to trust You completely and follow Your leading. Amen.
