As we approach Christmas, we want to intentionally slow down and reflect on the greatest gift ever given, the birth of Jesus Christ. Over the next several days, these devotionals will focus on the promises, people, and purpose surrounding His arrival. May this season draw your heart closer to Jesus and remind you of the hope, peace, and joy found in Him.
Mary’s Faithful Yes
Scripture:
“Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to Your word.”
— Luke 1:38 (NKJV)
Reflection:
Mary’s response to the angel’s message is one of the most powerful expressions of faith in all of Scripture. She was young, unprepared by human standards, and facing a future filled with uncertainty. Saying “yes” to God meant misunderstanding, possible rejection, and a path she could not fully see. Yet Mary did not ask for guarantees or explanations—she chose trust.
Her words reveal a heart fully surrendered to God’s will. Mary understood that God’s word could be trusted, even when the outcome was unclear. She believed that the same God who called her would also carry her through whatever lay ahead. This is the essence of faith: not knowing every step, but knowing the One who leads.
Often, we want clarity before obedience. We want reassurance before surrender. But Mary shows us that faith begins where certainty ends. When we place our lives in God’s hands, we allow Him to work through us in ways far beyond what we could imagine.
God is still looking for hearts willing to say, “Let it be according to Your word.” Ordinary obedience, when surrendered to God, can become the doorway to extraordinary purpose.
Application:
Reflect on areas of your life where fear or uncertainty may be holding you back from full trust.
Ask yourself what it would look like to surrender control and rely on God’s promises.
Remember that God’s faithfulness does not depend on your understanding—only on your willingness.
Challenge for Today:
Pray a simple prayer of surrender throughout the day:
“Lord, let it be according to Your word.”
Each time doubt arises, return to this prayer and choose trust over fear.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Mary’s example of faith and obedience. Help me say yes to You even when I don’t have all the answers. Strengthen my trust in Your plans and teach me to surrender fully to Your will. I place my life in Your hands. In Jesus Name, Amen.
