Daily Devotional: Where Wisdom Is Found

Scripture:

“And He said to man,

‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom,

And to depart from evil is understanding.’”

Job 28:28 (NKJV)

Reflection

Job 28 is a powerful pause in the middle of suffering. In this chapter, Job reflects on how skilled humanity has become. We mine deep into the earth, uncover precious metals, and discover hidden treasures. Yet despite all our intelligence, effort, and innovation, there is one thing we cannot uncover on our own—true wisdom.

Job makes it clear that wisdom cannot be bought, earned, or discovered through human strength. It isn’t found in gold, silver, or knowledge. Even creation itself—the sea, the depths, and death—cannot claim to possess it. Wisdom belongs to God alone.

In a world that constantly tells us to search harder, achieve more, and figure everything out, Job reminds us of a different truth: wisdom is revealed, not discovered. God sees what we cannot see. He understands the full story—past, present, and future—even when we only see confusion or pain.

The chapter ends with a simple but life-changing definition: wisdom begins with reverence for God and is lived out through obedience. When we honor God and turn away from evil, we are walking in wisdom—even when we don’t have all the answers.

Application

Ask yourself today:

  • Where have I been trying to rely on my own understanding instead of trusting God?

  • Are my decisions shaped more by fear of outcomes—or reverence for the Lord?

Wisdom isn’t about knowing what will happen next. It’s about choosing to honor God right now.

Challenge for Today

Release the pressure to “figure everything out.”

Choose one situation you’ve been overthinking and intentionally place it in God’s hands. Trust Him with what you cannot yet understand.

Prayer

Lord, I confess that I often seek answers more than I seek You. Teach me what true wisdom looks like, not just knowing more, but trusting You more. Help me walk in reverence, obedience, and humility, even when the path ahead is unclear. I place my trust in You today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
